Excessive Speeding Laws Are Expanded In Illinois

The current law considers driving any amount over the posted speed as speeding and you would receive a standard moving violation.

  • Driving 30 to 39 mph over the posted speed limit is now considered as excessive speeding, with a penalty of up to $1,500 in fines and up to six months in jail
  • For drivers convicted of speeding 40 mph or more above the posted limit, the penalties are fines up to $2,500 and a year in jail
  • For those who speed by 40 mph or more above the posted limit, court supervision will no longer be available
